Pulwama, May 16 (KNO): The faulty drainage system in Zahid Bagh area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district has been giving tough time to the locals, who have demanded proper drainage system in the locality. The residents of Zahid Bagh told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the hamlet lacks proper drainage facilities, thereby leaving the inhabitants to lurch at large. They said the government has been spending lakhs of rupees every year for drainage facilities but of no use as there is no planning behind it. “In absence of proper drainage facilities, we face a lot of problems particularly at the time of rains and snow as the inner roads usually get submerged with the muddy water,” said Arshid Ahmad, a local resident. He said that in times of emergency, the locals are being forced to face immense hardships as the people face difficulties to reach Masjids to offer prayers. Shakir Ahmad, another local resident said that a few years ago, a drain was constructed by the RDD department but it got blocked because it wasn't connected with any main drain where water from the drain can go. The locals said their hamlet has been neglected by the authorities, adding that the sewage waters enter their lawns in absence of the proper drainage system. They further said that the muddy water entering into lawns can prove dangerous as it can lead to the spread of infectious diseases. Despite repeated requests in this regard, the locals said the concerned department has failed to take concrete measures to end the sufferings of people. The people demanded that the concerned departments should take notice of their grievances and mitigate their sufferings. They have also sought immediate intervention from Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and BDO Lassipora in this regard—(KNO)
